This locomotive was ordered by the Great Western Railway from the swiss company of Brown Boveri during the Second World War, delivery taking place during 1949.

The locomotives sphere of operation was the Paddington to Bristol/West of England services, withdrawl took place late 1960/early 1961.

During 1963 the locomotive was sold back to its makers and returned to Switzerland where it was used as a development Locomotive.

However time passed and the locomotive returned once again to Britian and can currently (Jan 2004) be found at the Crewe heritage centre. (http://www.therailwayage.co.uk/)
