Construction of thses two locomotives was undertaken at the Derby Works. 10000 emerged in November 1947 in black livery with LMS lettering, 10001 was completed in July 1948 but without the LMS lettering. During this time 10000 was working on the Midland main line, upon 10001 release 10001 was called back to Derby.
It was not until September 1948 that both locomotives became avaliable for crew training out of Euston, passenger working commenced in October with a out and back trip to Carlisle in multiple.
Between 1948 and 1953 they could be found woring out of both Euston and St Pancra , visiting Derby works as required. It was during a visit in November 1951 that 10000 lost her LMS lettering.
During March 1953 they were both transferred to the Southern region working out of Waterloo, until spring 1955 when they both returned to Derby for overhaul.
From this overhaul both emergedin green livery which they carried until withdrawl 1966 for 10000, and 1962 for 10001. |
